Update for 5-8-2013: Movie Post

5-8-2013: Movie Post "Iron Man 3"

I went to see Iron Man 3 this past Saturday morning and I thoroughly enjoy the film, it had some really good scenes in it, both action and comedy wise.  I actually liked the multiple plots twist and characters growth that happened throughout the film, I felt it help make the movie even more interesting.  Such twists are with the Mandarin and the ending scenes with Pepper amazing fight and Stark future after the decisions he made.  But beyond the storyline I was also trying to look out for 3d animation scenes as well for my focus and it was a bit difficult for a while to  find something I could relate to until I realize the Iron Man suit itself is mainly animated.  Particularly when it comes on Stark and when he is flying around or fighting bad guys with it, those parts normally are animated and then using visual effects put back into the scene.  From researching about it I found out they actually have Downey wear a motion capture suit and certain parts of prop made armor, such as the leg, chest, and arm armor, to help the animation feel more realistic.  But needless to say the animation I did see in this film did help a bit to my focus, if anything it helped gave me ideas on animating robotic type objects and an idea on how to play with weight.  One example is at the beginning when the suit is coming on Stark, after watching it I could see that they had to make sure the animated armor parts felt like a piece of durable metal flying through the air while making it also seem light enough that somebody could wear it with some ease.  From what I could see they did this by have the armor piece hovering in the air a bit showing the weight of the armor fighting against gravity as it tried to stay afloat.  Then to show that it wasn’t too heavy for Stark they had them move much quicker in the air when the pieces flew to him.  Other scenes are when he is flying through the air saving people or when he fighting people, they also show similar animation as well.  It shown throughout the film that the suit animation is a bit more sluggishly when grounded because of Stark having to move the armor with his own strength verse when he is airborne, where the rockets on his hands and feet help to eliminate the weight instead.  In summary I had a tough time finding animation in this movie and then trying to explain how it pertained to my focus but after a lot of thinking I found the suit to be the only thing I could relate back to.  So hopefully I did this right and thank you as well Prof. Ellis for letting  us see this movie.

And here is my attempt at drawing a peice of the beginning scene when Stark is trying to get the suit to come to him

This is a update animation of the mouse and cat, worked more on making the mouse eat quicker and tried to add some rough ending animation but its not fully finalize yet especially with the cat, it mainly depends on how he animated.

First Animation due by mid-terms, it's mainly about a cat attacking its prey. Depending on how things go the cat's prey will either be a mouse or a toy, currently I'm trying it out with the mouse. Most of the work has been with the begginning and middle, not so much the ending
