Iron Man 3: A Fangirl's Manifesto
To most people, my mad crazy love for the Iron Man franchise is no secret. As such, I had to keep reminding myself to watch the movie not only as a
fangirl spectator, but also as a 3d Artist.
As cool as it would be, its hardly feasible to spend millions of dollars blowing up actual buildings, oil rigs, and super high tech battle ready suits. Therefor, the job of recreating these real life objects falls on the part of the modeler. In all the Iron Man films, I drool over the detail modeller in the mechanics of the suits. Its amazing how much work modellers put into creating convincing parts that look "tech" enough to be believable.
In addition to making convincing "tech", there was a lot of set building that had to be done digitally. I'm almost entirely sure that the whole last 30 minutes or so of the film was 90% green screened. Modelers have to build the rest of the scene to be composited and ultimately destroyed for the big finale. It was excellent to see, and I can't wait for the VFX breakdowns to see what was real, and what was created by people who are where I want to be.
It was excellent. My favorite in the trilogy.
